Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you want to know about the game.

1. The Game

1.1. How to start the game?

Once you are logged in simply click "PLAY NOW" then select a room to launch the game. If you have issue loading the game itself, please check the requirements below (and upgrade the Flash Player if needed).

System requirements:

- A modern browser (Internet Explorer 6+, Firefox, Safari, Opera, Chrome, we do not recommend using Internet Explorer 6)

- Flash player at least version 9. (get it for free there: http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer)

- A resonnably fast computer, the game does not require high end hardware.

- At least 256 Mb of memory (512 Mb is recommended)

- Compatible with Mac OS, Windows, PS3, Linux and more. You just need a browser with flash. (The Wii is not supported)

1.2. How to challenge a player ?

Once in the game click on the name of an available player (displayed in white). Select "VS" and wait for the answer. You can also wait for another player to challenge you.

1.3. How do I make my characters progress ?

In order for your characters to progress you must fight other players. After each fight characters will receive experience points. Once they have enough experience, your characters will reach the next level, gaining better stats and sometimes new abilities.

1.4. What is my goal in Urban Rivals ?

There are several different objectives. It's up to you to decide which ones best suit your style and mood. You can play to win in order to become the best ranked player, you can try to get all the characters from the game or you can simply play for fun with your favorite characters. Never forget that this is all about having fun!

1.5. My characters receive experience points after each fight, but do I get something ?

You will receive Battle Points after each fight allowing you to improve your ranking and to reach new levels. You will also receive Clintz that you can use to buy characters from other players.

1.6. What's the use of the Pillz ?

You can use Pillz to boost your character performance during the fight. You receive 12 Pillz at the beginning of the fight to spread across your four characters . The number of Pillz you assign to a player is multiplied by their Power to get Attack. The more Attack you use, the greater chance that your character will win the round. You can also use Pillz to increase the amount of Damage inflicted on your opponent if you win by selecting Fury.

2. Battles

2.1. Who starts the fight?

The player to start the fight is the one with the highest number of stars (sum of the characters’ levels), as we believe that whoever starts is at a slightly unfair disadvantage, unless an ability alters this rule e.g. the Ashiguru Counter-Attack.

2.2. Who starts the fighting animation and is it important?

The character with the most Pillz attacks first, but that has absolutely NO impact on the outcome of the round.

2.3. Are there any hidden factors that influence the outcome of the round, besides attacking?

No, none at all. Absolutely nothing is hidden ;)

2.4. In a non-random room, who wins if the two attacks are the same?

Currently, if two attacks are the same, the fight result is randomly decided (the chances of winning being equal for both players).
In the event of equal attacks in a non random room, the player controlling the lower level character wins the round. If both the characters are at the same level, then the player controlling the attacking character wins.

2.5. Are there different daily, independent tournaments, separated by Deck Type?

Currently, the daily tournaments are global. The players using different Deck Formats all play in the same tournament but, of course, you cannot challenge a Type 2 player with a Type 1 deck.

2.6. What does the Accelerate button do?

The accelerate button removes a few of the game’s popup confirmations and increases the speed of the fighting animation.

2.7. How come I only get 1 Clintz and 1 Battle point sometimes?

There are 2 possible reasons for this. Either you play too many matches against the same opponent/IP address, or you are in a training room.

2.8. Ability, Bonus, Stop Ability, Stop Bonus, what is the order and what are the priorities?

There are no priorities. The way to work out if an ability is activated is quite easy: start from the Ability/Bonus that you want to know whether it is activated or not, check that nothing is blocking it and if this is the case, that nothing is blocking the Ability/Bonus block, just like a chain.
Example 1: your character has +8 Attack as his ability and Stop Bonus as his Bonus, his opponent has Stop Ability as his Bonus. Is your Ability activated? Yes, because your Ability might be blocked by your opponent’s Bonus, but your Bonus blocks his Bonus.
Example 2: your character has +2 Power as his Bonus and Stop Opp Ability as his Ability, his opponent has Stop Opp Bonus as his Ability. Is your Ability activated? Yes, because your Bonus might be blocked by your opponent’s Ability, but your Ability blocks his Ability.

2.9. Is Courage only activated in the first round?

No, Courage is activated when you play your character first in any round i.e. in two rounds per battle.

2.10. Can I stack Poison Abilities?

No, if you successfully use another Poison Ability, it will replace the currently activated Poison, regardless of what that may be.

2.11. Can you block a Leader’s ability?

No, the Leaders’ abilities cannot be blocked by the "Stop Opponent Ability".

3.5. How is my grade calculated?

The grades currently range from Novice up to Divinity and are based on your characters collection. To reach a particular rank you must either have at least X Characters or at least X% of the game Characters.

You can get all the details in the game rules: http://www.urban-rivals.com/game/rules.php?show=ranks.

4. Buying and Selling

4.1. I only have 8 characters, how can I get more ?

To get more characters you can buy packs in the shop. Each booster contains 3 characters and costs 20 credits, a full deck pack costs 50 credits and contains 8 cards. You can also use the Clintz that you receive at the end of each fight in order to purchase character from other players on the market. You can also earn Clintz by selling the characters you do not want to keep on the Market, wich is usually a pretty good way to become rich :)

4.2. How can I exchange (or sell) my characters with the other players ?

It's quite easy actually : go to your collection. Find the character you wish to sell or exchange, then click on "Sell this character". Follow the instructions and you've just put your first character on sale ! If you did a private sale, your contact must go to "My privates sales awaiting" to get your character.

4.3. I can't sell characters either in public or private sales !

In order to prevent fraud your account will be locked until you buy some credits at the shop. After that you are free to buy and sell as you please. Note that players who haven't bought any credits can still sell characters to Kate but you'll get a much better deal from the marketplace.

5. The Characters

5.1. Which are the Collectors characters?

The Collectors characters are characters that are not available anymore at The Shop. You can only get them from other players on the Market or by winning them in ELO Mode or in some Events.

You can spot a Collector by his name, it ends up in " Cr".

Which characters become Collectors is decided by the Staff, and you'll be alerted by a home page news one week in advance. At that moment, all existing sales on the Market of the future collectors are cancelled and new sales are blocked for 24h (to spread the news...). The soon-to-be Collectors remain in The Shop's boosters for week and then they become Collectors.

We'll NOT tell anyone which characters will become collectors, not even hints.

Dont even ask, you won't get any answer :)

We know, it's hard, but it's fair :)

6. Advanced functionality

6.1. ELO Mode

You can get all the details about the ELO mode directly in the game rules, ELO section.

7. Various problems

7.1. I can't change rooms!

If you can't join a room make sure you have met all the criteria for joining that room - high enough level, proper deck format etc. If everything is set right and you still can't get into that room or you are stuck in the same room it's probably a browser cache issue. You should be able to fix it by reloading the page. If this doesn't work you'll need to clear your browser's cache making sure to get cookies and session info if you are given the option.

7.2. I have more than 100% of the collection! I found a bug!

In order to make it possible for everyone to reach 100% of the collection, only the currently available characters are taken into account for the 100%. If you are lucky enough to have collectors characters, you can exceed 100%.
